RE: Howdy from west texas

I'm not posting this to be vindictive but I don't want anyone else having to go through what I am now - it's like I've stepped into the Twilight Zone.

I wouldn't recommend doing business with 'spencercurtis' (Thermaloutfitters.com Tyler Adair) unless you want to pay an attorney should anything happen to the equipment you rented.  A few months ago I rented a Thor 320 from him and my residence was burglarized, I jumped through hoops to make certain Tyler was taken care of and reimbursed for the equipment within a week of the loss (he was paid $7900).

I buy and sell alot on craigslist and in doing that I always made mention that I was looking for a particular brand of thermal imager so that I could possibly find out who it was that broke into my home.  I came across a person that said he could get one but that it wasn't working and so I purchased a used scope that was the same model but was non-functional.  After inspecting it I couldn't say for certain it was the same one and decided to resell it, I put it on craigslist and the next thing I know a detective is knocking on my door accusing me of insurance fraud and theft.  The scope has no marking on it and it doesn't appear that anything has been scratched off so even though it's a rare item I don't believe it to be the same scope that was taken from my home.  Tyler Adair still hasn't returned any of my calls.

So as the situation stands I'm out $1500 to retain an attorney because of whatever story Mr. Adair told the sheriffs office and I have to say that it really sucks to be me right now, my wife was crying earlier because she's scared, she says even being accused like I have been has her worried for me.  Hell, I'm a little worried myself.  I'm really not sure how this situation has become what it has but all I know is I have to deal with it now.  I was sorry when the scope was stolen from my home, it was in a safe place and I took precautions to ensure it's safety, when it was taken I did the right thing and made certain that he was compensated for the loss, I did right by the guy even when he called me every name under the sun after I reported to him what had happened.  I guess that wasn't enough though.

I guess the lesson learned here is to never buy again the same type of thing stolen from you and to be cautious of the people you do business with.
